Sad news from Mozambique: Illegal poachers have killed all the rhinos in Limpopo National Park, a large wildlife reserve in the southeast African country, according to news reports.

Park director António Abacar was quoted as saying this week that no rhinos had been seen since January, “which means that the ones that lived in the park are probably dead,” according to the Portugal News.

With all the rhinos gone, poachers are now turning to elephants for their tusks. The horns and tusks are valued for their supposed medicinal value, despite the fact that horns are made of the same basic material as fingernails, with no healing properties. The park spans 4,247 square miles (11,000 square kilometers), an area more than twice the size of the U.S. state of Rhode Island.  

Meanwhile, Scientific American reports that for the first time in 33 years, a hunter has been allowed to import a trophy into the United States from a black rhino he shot in Namibia, outraging conservationists.

How black a soul must one have to take the life of another for personal gain in any way, shape or form? I believe poaching should be approached on three accounts: 1. attacking and reducing the need for individuals to turn to illegal behavior in order to sustain themselves and their family or make money 2. Attack the issue at the forefront, guard and protect those parks and rhinos (or elephants)  at any cost D: . There’s little wonder why LEWA guards have guns and a solid security system. and 3. Shutting down the avenues made available for the purchase of ivory and other illegal poaching goods. > btw, sorry for my personal rant there :) Kyo

images of zaballeen children who with 60,000 others live on the outskirts of cairo in the world’s largest garbage village. members of egypt’s minority coptic christian community, these entrepreneurial garbage workers recycle nearly all the trash they collect (4000 tones a day), including organic refuse they feed to their pigs. despite the invaluable service they provide to the city, the zaballeen (roughly translated as garbage collectors) live more like untouchables and struggle for legitimacy. with government apprehension over swine flu fears stripping the zaballeen of their pigs, and the advent of european multinationals contracted to collect the cities garbage (lowering the city’s recycling rate from the 80% of the zabelleen to less than 20%), the survival of this community (which dates back generations) is now under threat.

I just want to make a comment on how most vegans are aware of this, and our goal is never to be 100 percent “cruelty free”, but to eliminate as much suffering as possible. My ipods being stupid and not letting me check your blog to see if you are vegan, but if you’re not I really hope you step the fuck back and look at what you said.

Anyways, I’ve been aware of this situation for quite a while, and attempt to get food from local farms and such, to attempt to not buy from those who have work like this. However, it is currently a cruel reality that not everyone can afford produce other than this. Because of the low wages, the price is usually substantially lower. If you’re not of privilege, this could mean a great deal to you. I’m not sure if I made much sense in my ramblings, but that’s all i really have to say.

She is thought to be with her “boyfriend” whom is 18yrs old. His name is Matthew. We believe he’s convinced her to run away with him. We are terrified for her safety and it is unlike her to just leave without even a text. This girl is my life. She means more to me than anything else on this planet and not knowing if she’s okay is literally tearing me apart from the inside out. I want to die. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! I JUST WANT TO KNOW THAT MY BABY SISTER IS OKAY!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is thought to be somewhere in New York State but was last seen at her home in Spring Hill, Florida. Saw this somewhere else and felt the need to post it cause no one else ever really tells you this stuff

My mom never really noticed. She noticed when she was breast feeding my little brother and blood started coming out instead of milk. 

My mom said she felt and saw a little lump in the shower. She was lucky enough she found it at stage 2

My mom had a mammogram. The radiologist thought the spots were just regular calcium deposits. 

Turns out it was triple negative breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nods. Mastectomy, radiation and chemo saved her life.

This could SAVE a life.

They fended for themselves on the streets or in neglectful homes and so many of them arrived with broken bones and broken hearts. But HEALING takes place here. The dogs soon learn that they are loved and cared for. Life at the shelter is truly transformational, but the funding that had come from a charity in Austria has slowed to a trickle. Last month the dogs had no food for two days and there’s only enough food on hand now to last a few more days.
